    Quick VMWare/Linux Note

Virtual computing is expanding well beyond servers as more workstations take advantage of increasing hardware abilities to support multiple Operating Systems. Currently I'm testing various configurations with VMware workstation on Vista as host supporting Linux guest OS. This is possibly the easiest configuration to test as the system requirements for Linux based systems is far lower than Windows. For example I've allocated 1012mb RAM to guest which is well above the recommended lvl for my dual-core system. Ubuntu, although being easiest guest OS to employ, is not currently compatible with the VMware tools install that increases performance of graphics/mouse. This seems to be due to the fact that many 'build' daemons are not installed by default with Ubuntu. However, Fedora 8 appears to work fine. As the tools are offered in .rpm it simply treats the package as an installable module. For questions on this topic email me at kory@sumerau.net

Good News, Bad News on Katrina

No one can deny the loss of life, livleyhoods, and homes are well being staggering.  To many people of the the Gulf Coast there is no consolation, no light at the end of the tunnel.  They hurt and that's that.  So on an individual level there's nothing that can be said.  We can listen, but it would be arrogant to say "Well on the bright side......".  I've felt loss that can never be justified or softened so I won't attempt to minimize anyone else's suffering.
However, GENERALLY speaking, there is a bright side.  As harsh as this may sound, a massive natural disaster may be something that we desperatley needed.  I'm completley aware of all the negatives to come from this, no need pointing them out.  But on a much larger scale, look at what else is coming out of it.  For the first time EVER, the country of Mexico has sent aid to the United States.  Politically there is now a bond, or at least an avenue of interaction, that was never there before.  To say nothing of the Middle East countries.  We are less arrogant, less infalible.  For the first time ever we're one step closer to being Globally equal, able to give and recieve support to our fellow HUMAN rather than from a superior or inferior country.  Also, very financially well to-do proffesionals sat next to the desolate, both homeless, both hungry, both trying to console the other.  For thousands, they'll never see the other end of the wealth spectrum the same way again.  Suddenly it's not 'that homless guy' or 'the mercedes lady'; it's a human being that lost it all and was lucky to make it out alive.  So you have to see the good and the bad, sometimes change comes with one hell of a bill, but it doesn't mean that change wasn't needed.
As for all the flack over "Who is responsible for all the suffering, somebody must be accountable!".    Ummmm  try the Freakin' Hurricane idiots!!!!!!!  (Mrs. Clinton, you may bite me).   Yes things could have gone a little faster on getting help in there, but you know what?  I was in EMS for 12 years, I know that when you expect a trajedy and turn around to find a biblical catastrophe, you stumble a little.  Our government is made up of human beings people!!!!  If you are so self-rightous as to think you could have done better then get off your soap-box ass and run for a position.  How many times were people coming in to help shot at by the idiots they were coming to help???   How many people could have left and didn't, just to turn around and whine "oh help me help me"???  How many people are so stupid they think 60000 people can be rescued and cared for all at the same time on the same day?????   You want answers?  Go to Church and ask the guy who was responsible for the hurricane in the first damn place.  Odds are he'll tell you that some good, some bad, came out of it, he knows what he's doing, stop your bitching.
